8.30 p.m. Lecture Recital by Mr.John Greaves, HonSecretary
in the Conference Room of The Grand Hotels "Fagin".
MONDAY, 3rd JUNE
10 a.m. His Worship the Mayor of Folkestone will unveil a
tablet on 3, Albion Villas, where Dickens spent the summer
of 1855s an<i wrote parts of Little Dorrit. (Officers of the
Fellowship will be available to point out the "Pavilionstone
Hotel'1 where Dickens stayed on several occasions, and the
"steep, crooked street, like a crippled ladder" - now the
High Street, where Dickens witnessed a runaway brewer's van.)
Luncheon will be served at 12 noon in the Hotel to allow
time for the afternoon coach trip.
1.30 p.m. Coaches will leave from outside The Grand Hotel
for a visit to The Ellen Terry Memorial at Smallhythe. Mr.
Staples will give a short talk at Smallhythe on Ellen Terry.
8 p.m. Conference Dinner in The Grand Hotel Ballroom. The
Toast to the Immortal Memory of Charles Dickens will be pro
posed by Mr.Philip Collins, M.A., of the University of
Leicester, and author of "Dickens and Crime."
