Getuige een krantenbericht in het Haarlem's Dagblad van 16 april 1896,
over een persbijeenkomst in het Brongebouw, waar veel buitenlandse
pers aanwezig was, geloofde men dat het wel goed zat met de Engelse
belangstelling voor het Hollandse water. Veel belangrijke journalisten
waren immers naar Haarlem gekomen om te kunnen berichten over het
nieuwe kuuroord.43' Bekendheid was in Engeland al eerder ontstaan. Hoe
wel het Badhuis pas in 1896 zijn deuren voor publiek kon openen, moes
ten namelijk in 1894 al enkele Engelsen teleurgesteld worden, omdat zij
naar Haarlem gekomen waren voor het 'Kurhaus', dat nog niet bestond.44'
