Wellicht beluisteren wij hierin eveneens een opwekking om naar Boston te komen. s Als illustratie bij een artikel over het nut alcoholhouden de dranken met mate te drinken, in Time (24 November 1961) fungeerde een prentje van de gebroeders Cheeryble elkaar een welgevuld glas toedrinkend. Het onderschrift luidde: A drink a day keeps the doctor away. News from Cornell University Press. A selection of essays about the novels of Charles Dickens will be available in one volume when „The Dickens Critics", edited by George H, Ford and Lauriat Lane, Jr., is published by Cornell University Press on December 26. The essays included were published between 1841 and i960 as book reviews, articles in journals, or chapters in books on Dickens. They have been culled from the writings of such wellknown literary figures as Henry James, Anthony Trollope, George Orwell, Graham Greene, and Lionel Trilling. The subjects of the articles vary from Dickens' humerous characters, the jolly Christmas scenes, and Dickens as a writer for children to his social criticism and his desoriptions of corrupt courts, prisons, and poorhouses. Included also are dis cussions of plots, characters, form and symbol. 24
