77 o Dear Fellow Dickensian, The great importance of a Conference is the opportunity afforded to members of branches from all parts of the world to meet together - more important indeed than the place of Conferenceo This year we are fortunate in being able to gather in delightful surroundings, in the Garden of England, with a chance to enjoy all the events, with the exception of the excursions, under one roof» As Jingle so aptly remarked about the county in which Folkestone is situated - "Kent, sir - everybody knows Kent - apples, cherries, hops and women It is hoped that the reasonable terms for full board offered by The Grand (Conference Hotel) will induce all mem bers attending to stay in one place. This will eliminate the trouble of going out to the various functions and the cost of transport in wet weather (if any), and it is hoped will add greatly to your enjoyment. The excursions are shorter than usual - therefore less ex pensive - and are arranged so that all meals except one can be taken at the Conference Hotel, This will keep the cost of the whole Conference within reasonable limits. For those staying at The Grand Hotel, an allowance of 7/6d, will be made in respect of the Conference Banquet, The hotel has another Conference to accommodate, but will give preference to our delegates, if they book early, as we were first in the field. You are advised therefore to notify the hotel now of your requirements, and you are asked also to book with us early for the Conference, so that we know the number attending and can complete arrangementsForms are supplied for that purpose. Alternative hotels in the vicinity of The Grand, offering slightly lower rates., are not generally interested in short- term bookings. It is possible to book longer periods with them, however, and if you wish te remain a week of more, you should make your own individual arrangementsA list of hotels and guests houses will be supplied by the Publicity Manager, Publicity Office, Folkestone, Kent, on request, Book early, however, whatever you decide to do, and remember tha"*- ac-
