equally attracted to wet mud and muddy water and the prospect of breeding new life out
of the slime and of encouraging a uncramped, steadier life. But we cannot help feeling
that his poetry does not ultimately derive from hopes of resurrection, but settles, lingers,
and takes root in the mud.
