The Fellowship would long have gone!
But honour and dominion
Are not maintained so.
They're only got by reading Dickens
And this we Dutch do know.
The money that we spend
To give us much delight,
How could we have a Fellowship,
Without reading day and night.
May our fish or cheese be rotten,
Which makes the scurvy grow
We do need our Dickens
And this we Dutch do know
The books on our shelves
Be neither whole nor sound,
But, when we search for Dickens
It's easily being found.
Or, if we missed a story
And background maybe too
We have our Dutch Dickensian
And this we Dutch do know.
About powder, guns and bullets?
Really do we need them all?
It's better spent for our scrooge-fund
"Make peace", should be our call.
While reading our books of study,
From novel to novel we go.
Our aim's the thick book contest
And this we Dutch do know
The president will lead our meetings
The secretary will send us mail
The treasurer snaps our money
Such board of course will never fail
For now the conference is over
And 50 years don't really show
We're proud of our Fellowship
And this we Dutch do know.
Dickensians I propose a toast to the Dickens fellowship!!
